The requirement of two years of experience for candidates for attorneys has been abolished.
In order to increase the attractiveness of advocacy and create an effective system for attracting young professionals to this field, on August 9, 2023, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Advocacy” (hereinafter the “Law”).
In accordance with the amendments to the Law, one of the requirements for candidates for lawyers is canceled – two years of work experience in the legal profession.
Now applicants wishing to become an attorney need:
- to have a higher legal education;
- pass the qualification exam; and
- to have a three-month internship in any of advocacy structure (advocacy bureau, advocacy firm, board of attorneys, or law firm).
Soon we will publish a Memorandum on the legal profession, which will provide a detailed overview of the legal profession.
