A representative of an NGO will have the right to participate in meetings of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis
The President of Uzbekistan has signed a decree of 26 August 2024 «On measures to further improve the system of State support for civil society institutions».
According to the document, the chairman of the National Association of NGOs will have the right to participate in meetings of the Legislative Chamber and committees of the Oliy Majlis. In addition, the chairpersons of public councils at state bodies will be appointed from among civil society representatives.
A new Public Foundation for the support of NGOs has been established under the Oliy Majlis with regional subdivisions and 45 staff units. From 1 October 2024 to 1 October 2027, tax rates will be reduced by 50 percent for projects financed through State grants and social contracts. The tax-free amount of charitable donations has also been increased and the state duty for state registration of public associations has been reduced.
Competitions for NGOs to receive social contracts will be held annually, and from 1 October 2024, an electronic platform will be launched to ensure transparency in the allocation of state grants and subsidies. A ‘Civil Society Week’ will be held in the first week of December, with awards and prizes for NGOs.
