From April 1, 2026, cashless payments will be mandatory for certain transactions in Uzbekistan
Starting from 1 April 2026, payments for a number of transactions in Uzbekistan will be conducted exclusively through bank cards or electronic payment systems in order to promote cashless payments and reduce the share of the shadow economy.
This requirement will apply to the following types of payments:
– government services;
– use of electricity, natural gas, and drinking water (except payments made through bank cash desks);
– alcohol and tobacco products;
– retail sale of petroleum products to the population through fuel stations and charging of electric vehicles;
– goods and services costing over UZS 25 million (except agricultural products);
– sale and purchase of real estate;
– sale and purchase of motor vehicles that are less than 10 years old, belonging to categories “M”, “N”, “O”, “G”, as well as special-purpose vehicles.
For real estate and motor vehicle purchase and sale transactions, payments will be carried out through electronic data exchange between banks and notaries. Confirmation of payment via such electronic data exchange will serve as the basis for notarizing the contracts.
*These changes are introduced in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. DP‑246
