History

The law firm was established as an independent practice on 1 January 2002 as the successor to Gouldens Central Asia. Gouldens was one of the first foreign law firms to be involved in Uzbekistan as a result of being appointed in early 1994 as special legal advisor to the Committee on Economic Reform and Budgetary Policy of the Supreme Soviet under the TACIS Programme of the EU. Gouldens Central Asia Limited was granted its licence to practice Uzbek law in the summer of 1995 and became the first accredited foreign law firm in Tashkent. The firm developed close working relationships with the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance by whom it was appointed special advisor on international financial law in 1997.

The law firm presently acts as external counsel for Beeline (Russia), Asia-Trans Gas (Uzbekistan-China), Barrick (Canada), Hewlett-Packard (USA), Western Union (USA), IBM (USA), Lukoil (Russia), Gazprom (Russia) and ZTE (China), and other international and local companies including banking institutions such as KDB Bank, Asia Alliance Bank and few others.
